Boso was born about 0892. Boso's father was Richard "the Justicer" d'Autun Duke of Burgundy and his mother was Adelaide d'Auxerre. His paternal grandparents are Buwin d'Autun Count of Autun and Richildis d'Arles; his maternal grandparents were Conrad II d'Auxerre Count of Auxerre and Judith di Friuli. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Raoul de Bourgogne, Hugues Nerra "the Black", Ermengard and Adelaide. He is the third oldest of the five children.
