Luitgarde of was born about 0848 in Saxony, Germany.1 Luitgarde of's father was Ludolph Duke of Saxony and her mother was Oda Billung. Her paternal grandfather was Bruno Duke of East Saxony and her paternal grandmother is Oda; her maternal grandparents are Billung of Saxony and Aeda of Franks. She had a brother and a sister, named Otto "the Illustrious" Duke of and Oda of. She is the second oldest of the three children. She had a half-sister named Waldrada (Valtrude).
‌Luitgarde of and 'the Stammerer' King of France were married in a religious ceremony in 1st wife.2
