His paternal grandfather was George Hobson and his paternal grandmother is Elizabeth Lindley; his maternal grandparents were Edward Kinnison and Mary Greenaway. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named George, William, Charles, James, Edward, Thomas, Stephen, Hannah, Rebecca and Ann.-
