Muriel de was born about 1032 in Conteville, Eure, Normandy, France.  Muriel de's father was Herluin de Conteville Viscount Conteville and her mother was Harlette De Falaise Countess of Mortaigne.  Her paternal grandparents were de Tonsburgh Earl of Comyn John de Bourg and Mrs. Jean De Conteville; her maternal grandparents were Fulbert 'The Tanner' De Falaise and Doda De Falaise. She had eleven brothers and eleven sisters, named Andre, Seigneur de Vitre, Eudes \ Odo Bishop Of, Odo Bishop of, Odo de, Robert Count, Odo, Robert Count De, Robert, Count de Mortaigne, Count Robert, Robert de Mortaigne Earl of, Eudes de, Maude de, Emma, Oda (Eudes), Emma de, Isabella de, <Unnamed>, Mathilde de, Mathilde, Muriel, Muriel and Miss de. She had five half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Ralph Count of, "The Conqueror" King of England, Richard  Fitz Gilbert, Baldwin Fitz-Gilbert of, Osbern, Adelaide Countess of, Emma and Anna.
