Nigel d'Aubigny was a Domesday tenant-in-chief at Cainhoe and elsewherein Bedforshire. His origin has been discussed by the present writer, andthe conclusion reached that he was a member of the same family as Aubignyof Arundel and derived his name from St-Martin-d'Aubigny. His exactposition in the pedigree has not been established with certainty, but theprobabilities point somewhat strongly to his having been a youngerbrother of Roger d'Aubigny the father of William d'Aubigny, founder ofthe line of Arundel; if so, he was probably brother of Richard d'Aubigny, abbot of St. Albans.
