Maud was born in 1897 in Hodgenville, Larue Co., Kentucky.1 Maud's father was Aaron Underwood and her mother was Caroline B. Arnett. Her paternal grandparents were James Franklin Underwood and Nancy Ann DeWitt. She had a brother and three sisters, and also five siblings of unknown gender, named Sylvester, Bessie, Theresa, Flora Gaddie, Ora, Unknown, Unknown, Unknown and Unknown.
