William was born in 1773.¹ William's father was Ignatius French and his mother was Elizabeth ???. His paternal grandfather was John French. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Joseph, Ignatius, Mary, Mary, Mary, Elizabeth and Ann. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.¹
