[basham.ged] Family History In McAdams File McAdams Family History Marshall County History Qtrly 1977 Captain Alexander Davidson was one of the earliest settlers on the wes te rn part of Rowan County (now Iredell). he took an active part in the Re vol utionary struggle for independence. When Cornwallis was moving from C harl eston toward North Carolina and General Gates was ordered to meet hi m, Gov ernor Caswell, of North Carolina ordered a draft of men to strength en Gate s's army. In response to this order the people in that part of Ir edell Co unty bordering on the Catawbwa River below the Island Ford, assem bl ed at a central point, afterwards known as Brown's Muster Ground, wh en a c ompany formed under the draft, and Alexander Davidson was elected C aptai n. Soon afterward Captain Davidson marched his company to Gates' rendez vo us when that officer moved his army to the unfortunate and sanguinary f ie ld of Camden, South Carolina.
