Walter W. was born about 1883 in Virginia.1 Walter W.'s father was George Clifton Basham and his mother was Amanda A. Jones. His paternal grandparents were Sylvester Basham and Jane Eliza Hill. He had a brother and three sisters, named John Clifton, Ester E., Mary Sadie and Georgia E.. He was the oldest of the five children.
