Her paternal grandparents were James Harvey MAYNARD and Sena Jane PERRY; her maternal grandparents were Absalom T. FINLEY and Malinda E. ADKINS. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Jay C., Jesse D., Rosalee, Rinda, Romaine, Katherine and Addie. She was the youngest of the eight children.
