Richard KIRBY I, 73, president of Kirby's
Richard W. KIRBY I, 73, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 1995 at a Columbus hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1921, in Portsmouth, a son of the late William and Anna BUSL KIRBY, he was president of Kirby's Flower Shop and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Portsmouth Elks Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine SPAULDING KIRBY, whom he married Feb. 16, 1942; two sons, Richard W. KIRBY II of Delray Beach, Fla., and William W. KIRBY of Portsmouth; four grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Charles KIRBY; and four sisters, Grace REED, Margaret BODNER, Mary BURLING and Gertrude McBRIDE.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portsmouth, with the Rev. Jack MAYNARD, the Rev. Pat TONER, the Rev. David FUNK and the Rev. William PATTERSON officiating, and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Melcher Funeral Home in Portsmouth, where recitation of rosary will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
