Nancy Jane was born in September 1853 in Kanawha Co., VA. Nancy Jane's father was Thompson Mathias Young and her mother was Nancy Jane Isabel Reveal. Her paternal grandparents were Mathias Gayhart I Young and Nancy Sarah Hickman. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Augustus, William Henry, Francis Marion, Hugh Peter T., James Mathias, Robert Judus, Georgeanna S., Florella Catherine, Mary E. and Betty Elizabeth.
