Robert I was born about 1544 in Sulgrave Manor, Northamptonshire, England and his baptism took place in Of, Sulgrave, Northamptonshire, England.1 Robert I's father was Lawrence WASHINGTON and his mother was Anne Aimee PARGITER. His paternal grandfather was John WASHINGTON and his paternal grandmother is Margaret KITSON; his maternal grandfather was Robert PARGITER and his maternal grandmother is Anne KNIGHT. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named William, John, Lawrence, Frances, Anne, Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, Magdalen and Barbara. He was the oldest of the eleven children.
