Hester Maria was born in 1828.  Hester Maria's father was John A. Walker and her mother was Mary Polly Jenny Epperson.  Her maternal grandfather was Joseph Epperson and her maternal grandmother is Jane Walker. She has three brothers and two sisters, named Jospeh N., James C., John M., Nancy Malissa and Louisa Caroline.  She is the oldest of the six children.
