Gassaway was born in 1752 in , Anne Arundel Co., Md. Gassaway's father was Nicholas WATKINS and his mother was Ariana WORTHINGTON. His paternal grandparents were Nicholas WATKINS and Margaret LAMB; his maternal grandparents were Thomas WORTHINGTON and Elizabeth RIDGELY. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, Nicholas, Elizabeth and Margaret. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 88 on July 14th, 1840 in Baltimore, Baltimore Co., Md. He was buried in 1840 in Walnut Grove, Anne Arundel Co., Md.General Notes
