Jan Aertsz's father was Aert Jansz Verkerck and his mother is Aaltje Klaas.  His paternal grandfather was Jan Aertsz Verkerck and his paternal grandmother is Maria Jans Krol. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Aert Aertsz, Claes Aertsz, Jelis Aertsz, Marijke Aertsz, Christina Aertsz, Jannigje Aertsz and Metgen Aertsz.
