Thomas was born in 1786 in Decatur, Mifflin Co., Pa. Thomas' father was Paul TRIMMER and his mother was Jane MCELWAIN. His paternal grandparents were Anthony Or Toenes TRIMMER and Elizabeth Or Susanna HOUSHALL; his maternal grandfather was Moses MCELWAIN and his maternal grandmother is Agnes MILLER. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Anthony, UNKNOWN, Samuel, John, John?, Mary (Polly), Nancy, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Mary Or Polly. He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children.
