William was born on February 10th, 1686 in Metheringham, Lincoln, England.  William's father is Edward SLIGHT (SLYTE) and his mother is Elizabeth BAULDERSTONE.  His paternal grandfather was George SLEIGHT and his paternal grandmother is Grace UNKNOWN. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Gregory, William, John, Elizabeth, Rachell and Susannah.  He is the second oldest of the eight children.
