In Greek religion and mythology, a Titan. She was the wife and sister ofKronos, by whom she bore Zeus, Poseidon, Pluto, Hestia, Hera, andDemeter. She eventually helped Zeus overthrow Kronos. Her worship, whichwas orgiastic and associated with fertility rites, was particularlyprominent in Crete. The Greeks often identified her with Gaea and Cybele.In Rome, Rhea was worshiped as Magna Mater and identified with Ops.Cronus made it a practice to swallow their children. To avoid this, Rheatricked Cronus into swallowing a rock, saving her son Zeus.
