Edward was born in 1638 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts and his baptism took place in Of Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts. Edward's father was Edward RAWSON and his mother was Rachel PERNE. His paternal grandparents were David RAWSON and Margaret WILSON; his maternal grandparents were Richard PERNE and Rachel GREENE. He had five brothers and eight sisters, named David, Grindal, William, Grindall, John, Rachel, Miss, Mary Perne, Susan, Perne, Hannah, Rebecca and Elizabeth.
