Margaret was born in 1723 in Blissfield Parish, Rockingham Co., Va. Margaret's father was John Phares and her mother is Agnes Margaret Johnson. Her paternal grandparents were John Phares and Marie Lawrie. She had a brother and two sisters, named Child, Rebecca and Elizabeth. She was the oldest of the four children.
