WILLIAM PIXLEY 
WILLIAM was born on June 27th, 1669 in Northampton, Hampshire, MA, USA and his baptism took place in 1690 in Stratford, Fairfield, CT, USA. WILLIAM's father was WILLIAM PIXLEY and his mother was SARAH LAWRENCE. His maternal grandparents were THOMAS LAWRENCE and ELIZABETH BATES. He had five brothers and two sisters, named THOMAS, JOSEPH, JOSEPH (2), EBENEZER, ANTHONY, SARAH and MARY. He was the third oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 42 on February 29th, 1712 in Peqvonnock, CT, USA.General Notes
William Pixlee came to Stratford (now Bridgeport) in 1690, when 21 years of
age, and purchased his first land 21 Apr 1690. About the year 1700 he built
the house known by subsequent generations as the old Pixlee Homestead, and
was still standing in 1977, having it ready for occupancy at the time of his
marriage. William Pixlee was thrown from his horse at Rocky Hill, in
Pequonnock, CT and died from his injuries. The inventory of his property was
taken 17 Mar 1712 amounting to 492 pounds 17 shillings, to which his widow
made oath. The early compilers of this family history list as first born to
William Pixlee a son Alexander, but with no date of birth. The present
compiler notes that William came first to Stratford nearly 11 years before he
built a house and married Grace Mitchell. It is suggested that William married
first cir 1690/91 and had a son, Alexander, b. cir 1692. It is further
suggested that the first wife died in childbirth or shortly after and the
child placed with another family. Or Grace Pixlee could have rejected this
child as a step-son, whereupon he left home and enlisted in the expedition to
capture Port Royal, Nova Scotia in 1710. At that time he changed his name to
"Robert" and was enlisted under the spelling of "Pigsley", which spelling was
adopted by his descendants. Please see note in Pixley Genealogy on page 5.14.
