John was born in 1540 in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England.  John's father was Cutler OVERTON and his mother was Olive Mrs OVERTON. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Edward, William, Clement, Harry, Katherine, Mary, Rose, Isabel and Martha.  He is the youngest of the ten children.
