After Llewelyn Fawr had hanged Eva's husband, William, he wrote letters(see translations) to her and her brother, William, Earl of Pembroke. Hewas enquiring whether the marriage between his son, Dafydd, and Isabellade Braose should still go ahead. Evidently they agreed that it should.Nevertheless Llewelyn and Dafydd were never satisfied with thedistribution of William's lands among his four heiresses and this led tofurther armed conflicts in the marches. Eva continued to hold Braose lands and castles in her own right after thedeath of her husband. Dugdale mentions her as the holder of Totnes in1230. It is recorded in the Close Rolls (1234-7) that Henry III granted12 marks to her to strengthen the castle at Hay.
