George Washington MARABLE

Passedaway April 11, 2004 after a long illness. He was born February 23, 1914 to William Earnest and Margaret Maxwell Marable in Normandy, Tennessee, the last of seven children. Preceded in death by his brothers, E.C., William, Richard and Leonard; his sisters, Irene and Eula; his niece, Cicily Ray. He is survived by hiswife of 64 years, Mary Louise Abernathy Marable; his children, George Anna, Joseph Scott (Alex), Alice M. Campbell (Bob) and Abby M. Treloggen (Tom); his grandchildren, Steven Campbell, Scott and Kurt Marable; his step grandchildren, Rob Campbell (Carrie), Staci T. Saunders and Dana Treloggen; nephews, Boone Marable and Dickie Marable; nieces, Diane White and Betty Dufore. A graduate of College Grove High School, he married in 1939 and then attended Peabody College while operating a grocery store. In 1942, he joined the Army and was wounded in France in 1944. He left the Army as a Captain in 1947, having received the PurpleHeart and having endured three years in hospitals due to his war injuries. Hewas employed by the Federal Government from 1948 until his retirement in 1979,receiving several commendations and awards. Always interested in learning, he took classes at UT Extension. He enjoyed a good game of bridge, any kind of sport, especially golf and fishing, and his vegetable garden. Active at Calvary United Methodist Church for 35 years, he sang in the choir and coached sports. Inretirement, he became an accomplished American Primitive wood carver. Church membership was transferred to Brentwood United Methodist Church when the family moved in 1989. Visitation will be at Brentwood United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. Memorial services will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Dr. Howard Olds officiating. Interment services will follow at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to AAMDS Foundation, P.O.
