Hugh was born on May 26th, 1689 in Loudoun, Ayrshire, Scotland.  Hugh's father is Thomas MORTOUN. He has three brothers and four sisters, named Archibald, James, Matthew, Helen, Janet, Marion and Jean.  He is the youngest of the eight children.

‌Hugh and Jean were married in a religious ceremony on June 3rd, 1714 in Loudoun, Ayrshire, Scotland.  They have four sons and six daughters, named James, John, Hugh, John, Margaret, Jean, Mary, Janet, Agnes and Lillias.
