Isaiah MIDKIFF 
Isaiah was born on December 18th, 1760 in Halifax, VA. Isaiah's father is John MIDKIFF and his mother was Mary Agnes Parsons. His paternal grandfather is Thomas MIDKIFF; his maternal grandparents were Richard Sr. PARSONS and Lydia Briggs. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named John, Spencer, Joseph Allen, James Farrar, Samuel, George, William, Lavina (Viney) and Agness. He died at the age of 74 in 1834 in Grainger, TN.General Notes

Isaiah was born on December 18, 1760, and went into the army in 1777. He was sent to Fort Patrick Henry, at the Long Island of the Holston River, an outpost to guard the settlers from Indian attacks. The fort was at the present site of the city of Kingsport, TN. After serving three months, he was mustered out, but instead of returning to Pittsylvania County, he went t o Surry County, NC, possibly because he had relatives there. He was still living in Surry County in 1780, when he was drafted for another three month tour of duty. Under Captain Joseph Cloud, he marched from Surry County to the Sycamore Shoals of the Watauga River, near the present site of Elizabethton, TN. He joined the Overmountain Men who marched over the mountains and won the Battle of Kings Mountain, a significant defeat for the British. After mustering out, he returned to Surry County, where he stayed until 1789, when he moved to Hawkins County, TN, (later Grainger County, TN), where he lived when he filed his pension application i n 1832. He was justice of the peace in Rutledge, the county seat, and presumably died near there. NOTES from other researchers: On February 19, 1799 Isaiah Midkiff was issued a ferry permit to keep a public ferry on the Holsten River where he lived.
