John was born about 1323 in Carrick, Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland. John's father is Gilbert De Carrick. His paternal grandfather is Gilbert De Carrick. He was an only child. He died after October 20th, 1385 in Ayrshire, Scotland.General Notes

Sir John was commissioner of the Treaty of Newcastle for the redemption
of David. He had, in 1363, a safe conduct from Edward III to visit the
shrine of St. Thomas, Atterbury. He married Mary, daughterof Sir Neil
Montgomerie, from whom he acquired the Castle in Ayr.
In 1361,he received the contributions due the crown from the Sheriffdom
of Wigtown.
In 1367, He was acting as Steward of the Earldom of Carrick.
In 1370, he received one-half of the Barony of Dalrymple and in 1376, he
received the other half.
In 1374-5, he acquired the Barony of Cumbernauld.
