David was born in 1803 in Lincolnton, Lincoln, North Carolina.  David's father was Phillip KILLIAN and his mother is M. HOCKING HOCKINGS. He had eight brothers and two sisters, named John, Daniel, George Medartus, Leonard, Andrew, Jacob, Phillip, Edward, Miss and Dau.  He is the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
