Joseph KEELER 
Joseph was born in 1683 in Norwalk, Fairfield, CT. Joseph's father was Samuel KEELER and his mother was Sarah ST. JOHN. His paternal grandfather was Ralph KEELER and his paternal grandmother is Sarah HOWES; his maternal grandparents were Mark St. JOHN and Elizabeth STANLEY. He had four brothers named Samuel, Benjamin, Jonah and Timothy. He was the second oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 74 on November 29th, 1757 in Ridgefield, Fairfield, CT. He was buried in Ridgebury Cemetery, Ridgebury, CT.General Notes

HISTORY: From Robert Cameron's Gedcom: Settled in Ridgefield. Acarpenter, and as early as 1715, by town meeting, he was appointed torepair the meeting house, and 1716 he was elected lister and seller ofweights and measures, and Dec 20, 1722, surveyor; and 1725 one of acommittee to fix the line betwixt Norwalk and Ridgefield. In 173 5 hewas a Justice of the Peace and town miller, and for several yearsthereafter. He died at 74.
"Keeler Family Genealogy", p. 16, states Joseph was an originalpropriator of Ridgefield, drawing lot 19 when the new town's land wasdivided in 1708. He was a carpenter and undoubtedly involved in thebuilding of Ridgefield's first homes. In 1715 he was selected at a townmeeting to repair the meeting house. He was Ridgefield's first lister,in 1716, keeping a record of the town's inhabitants and property valuesfor tax purposes. He probably moved from Norwalk to Ridgefield to Norwalkabout 1708, or at the age of 25. Boughton, "Rockwell and KeelerGenealogy", p 9 & 14 - "Whitney Family", page 16.
Their [Elizabeth and Joseph's] gravestones were visible in 1875; but hishaving been used in trapping woodchucks was broken in pieces. "The St.John Genealogy", Orline St. John Alexander, Grafton Press, New York,1908, p 21.
