Living's father was Ernest Preston Hutchcraft and his mother was Bertha Mae McMillen. His paternal grandparents were William Luther Hutchcraft and Katherine Elizabeth Wells. He had eight brothers and seven sisters, named Carl Edward, Harold D., Preston Ernest, John William, Reuben Lee, Clyde Archer, Floyd Vernon, Billie Jene, Katherine Elizabeth, Hazel May, Dorothy Jane, Gertrude Nancy, Hattie Belle, Living and Living.
