Name Suffix:<NSFX> , Jr. In 1737 John Houston Jr. decided to leave southeastern Pennsylvania andjoin some Scottish friends in western Virginia. A number of theScotch-Irish were leaving due to increased taxation, to religious restrictions, and to the large increase of foreign speaking settlers in their area. For whatever reason, John Jr., his wife, most of hischildren and his widowed mother moved to the area of Augusta andRockbridge Counties, Virginia. Mrs. John Houston Sr. (Mrs. William BoneII's mother) died there in 1747 when she was around 90. John Jr., diedthere about 10 years later and left land to his sons.
