William was born in 1600 in Glastonbury,Somersetshire,England.  William's father was William Holbrook and his mother was Edith Coles.  His paternal grandfather was Thomas Holbrook and his paternal grandmother is Constans Thayer; his maternal grandfather was *Thomas Coles. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, John, Joan, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Basil.  He is the second youngest of the seven children.
