Cornelius was born about 1735 in , Pasquotank Co, Nc. Cornelius' father was RICHARD GREGORY and his mother was Margaret JONES. His paternal grandparents were Richard GREGORY and Margaret BARECOCK. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Griffith, Robert, Joseph, William, Judah Sawyer, Easter Sawyer, Bridget Sawyer, Ruth Gascoe, Ann and Charity.
