Maud Matilda was born about 1272 in Carrick, Argyllshire, Scotland.  Maud Matilda's father was Robert De BRUS and her mother was Margaret UNKNOWN.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert De BRUS and Isabel De CLARE; her maternal grandfather was Neil Of CARRICK and her maternal grandmother is Margaret STEWART. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Robert I, Edward, Nigel (Neil), Thomas, Alexander, Isabella, Christina, Mary, Elizabeth and Margery.  She was the second oldest of the eleven children.  She died after September 1323.
