Jonathan Dawson was an Englishman coming to the United States about the year 1743. He settled on the Cape Fear River at Wilmington, NC, where he died. The year of his death is unknown. he died on a boat and the fact of his death was kept a secret from his wife for six months, as she was then pregnant and a woman of very sensitive and delicate feelings, and it was feared the shock would kill her.
Jonathan Dawson was active, intelligent and was engaged in merchandise, trading and the shipping. His wife was Miss Frances Rouse who was living at Wilmington at the time of their marriage.
At the death of Jonathan, his widow married General Williams of South Carolina and removed to that state. The descendants of General Williams live principally in Georgia and Alabama and are men and women of character and position.
