Samuel was born in 1738 in , Lived In Rockingham Co., Nc. Samuel's father was Samuel DALTON and his mother was Ann Dandridge "Nancy" REDD. His paternal grandfather was William DALTON and his paternal grandmother is Elizabeth (DALTON); his maternal grandfather is George REDD and his maternal grandmother was Anne DANDRIDGE. He had four brothers and eight sisters, named David, Robert, William, John, Letitia (Letty), Rachael, Mary, Jane, Ann "Nancey", Rachel, Sarah Matilda and Virginia "Jenny". He was the oldest of the thirteen children. He died at the age of 51 on February 2nd, 1789 in Bever Island, Rockingham Co., Nc.
