Francis was born in 1521 in Bargrave, Leicester, England.1 Francis' father was Richard of Stanford Cave and his mother was Margaret Saxby. His paternal grandfather was Thomas Cave and his paternal grandmother is Thomasine Passemer; his maternal grandparents are Thomas Saxby and Mrs Saxby. He had a brother and a sister, named Anthony of Chicheley and Bridget. He was the youngest of the three children.
