Edern Ap was born about 0410 in Of, Edeirnion, Merionethshire, Wales.  Edern Ap's father is Cunedda "Wledig" Ap EDERN and his mother is Gwawl Verch COEL.  His paternal grandfather is Edern Ap PADARN. He has nine brothers and two sisters, named Tybion Ap, Rhufon Ap, Ceredig Ap, Afloeg Ap, Ysfael Ap, Einion "Yrth" Ap, Dunog Ap, Dogfael Ap, Gwron Ap, Tegid (Tegeingl) Verch and Gwen Verch.  He is the second oldest of the twelve children.
