His paternal grandparents were William COMYN and Margaret Countess Of BUCHAN; his maternal grandparents were Roger De QUINCY and Helen (Elena) Of GALLOWAY. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named John, Roger, William, Elizabeth, Miss, Elena, Marjorie, Bridget, Margaret and Catherine. He was the youngest of the eleven children.
