Richard was born about 1560 in Of, Forde Hall, Wrotham, Kent, England. Richard's father was George CLERKE (CLARKE) and his mother was Elizabeth WILSFORDE (WAISFORDE). His paternal grandfather was James CLERKE and his paternal grandmother is Elizabeth FERRERS; his maternal grandparents are Thomas Of Hartridge WILSFORDE and Elizabeth CULPEPPER. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named William, George, James, Thomas, Reginald, Robert, Richard, Elizabeth, Elizabeth and Daughter. He was the youngest of the eleven children.
