Thomas was born in 1717 in NEWARK, ESSEX, New Jersey.  Thomas' father was ISREAL CANFIELD and his mother was Sarah Johnson. He had four brothers and four sisters, named David, EPHRAIM, ISREAL, ABRAHAM, PHEBE, Hannah, ABIGAIL and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 74 on July 27th, 1791.
