Sarah was born on July 17th, 1796 in , Hampshire, Wv. Sarah's father was Isaac Newton BROWN and her mother was Mary Ann CLAYTON. Her paternal grandfather was Alexander BROWN and her paternal grandmother is Mary UNKNOWN; her maternal grandfather was Thomas CLAYTON and her maternal grandmother is Mary Walker. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Alexander, Samuel, Thomas, James C, Mary, Elizabeth, Jane and Rachel. She was the oldest of the ten children.
