John was born about 1761 in <Lebanon, , Pennsylvania>. John's father was Peter Benedict and his mother was Maria Elizabetha Laubscher. His maternal grandparents are Conrad Laubscher and Anna Margretha Rehberger. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Abraham, Jacob, Daniel, Peter, Barbara, Elizabeth, Catherine, Christina, Mary and Susanna. He is the second oldest of the eleven children.General Notes
