Floris de was born in 1255 in Of, Valenciennes, Nord, France. Floris de's father was Jean I De AVESNES and his mother was Aleida Countess Of HOLLAND. His paternal grandparents were Bouchard de AVESNES and Marguerite Countess Of FLANDERS & HAINAULT; his maternal grandparents were Floris IV Count Of HOLLAND and Mathilde Princess Of BRABANT. He had five brothers and a sister, named Jean II De, Baudouin de, Bouchard de, Guy de, Guillaume de and Jeanne de. He was the second youngest of the seven children.
