His paternal grandparents were John (Old) ASHCRAFT and Charity Beeson; his maternal grandparents were CHARLES MCINTIRE and Elender Evans Alexander. He had eight brothers and eleven sisters, named Nathan, John, Aaron, Uriah, Jacob, William, Buckamon, Nathan, Ruth, Asenah, Nancy, Sarah, Rachel, Mary Ann Eleanor, Mariah Ann, Agnes, Charlotte, Martha and Mary.
