Pedro was born in 1176 in Aragon, Spain. Pedro's father was Alfonso UNKNOWN and his mother was Sancha Infanta Alfonsez. His paternal grandparents were Ramon "Le Saint" Berenguer and Petronilla Ramirez; his maternal grandparents were Alfonso Raimúdez and Berenguela UNKNOWN. He had a brother and three sisters, named Alfonso, Constanza, Sancha and Lenor. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Ramiro, Fernando, Sancho VII, Constance, Berengaria and Blanche. Peter II of Aragon (1174 - September 12 1213), surnamed the Catholic, was the king of Aragon and count of Barcelona from 1196 to 1213 .
He led the Christian forces to defeat the Moors at the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212 .
He died in September 12 1213 at the Battle of Muret in the help of his vassal, the count of Toulouse , during the crusade against the Albigensians.
