Hugh was born in 0922 in Vermandois, France. Hugh's mother was Adela UNKNOWN. His maternal grandparents were Robert Capet and Adelaide D'alsace. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Odo, Herbert III 'The Elder', Robert, Albert, Alice (Adelaide Adele), Luitgarde and Gerberge. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
