Shubael was married to Patience Jewett on 29 May 1666, at Reading,Mass. He resided in Bradford, Mass., and received in the deed of
5 March1679 one- third of the four tracts then belonging to his parents, except for the one-third of the medow and 100 acres of upland deeded to Nathaniel. He held town offices, was Captain of the Train Band, and like his father and his uncles Richard and Samuel, was a surveyor. He eventually amassed considerable property, and shortly before his death moved to Swamscott Farms where his father, mother and two sisters also resided. After his death Patience married Richard Dole. She was his third wife.

According to Savage's General Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, Vol. 1V, page 397, Shubael was the Town Clerk in Rowley,Mass., for a period of time.

Shubael was a half-brother to Richard of Ipswich and to John of Charlestown. Shubael's unusual given name was used in the Talmadge family in England, and this fact supports the suggestion that Captain Richard Walker of Ipswich married sisters, Jane and Sarah Talmadge.
