His paternal grandparents were Thomas Meggs and Agnes Copplestone; his maternal grandparents were William Peverell and Jane Trenchard. He was an only child. The Will of Lawrence Meggs dated October 10, 1598 mentions his Uncle Henry Meggs and his son Percival who mistreated him. Page 51 book by Bartelot tells of Lawrence Meggs suing Henry and Percival Meggs for trying to restrain him as a lunatic on November 6, 1592. Peveral and Hugh Meggs, sons of the plaintiff were among those mentioned. His father Nicholas named Lawrence's children in his will.
